Showcasing 50 years of the dream
In 1968 Mr. Victor Lawson became the first Liberian Staff after Staff training in the US. Upon his arrival from the United States, he left staff. In 1973 expatriate AGAPE staff Earl and Linda Davis traveled to Liberia, and later that year; CY & Diane Farmer joined to help coordinate the Movement in Liberia. During that time Barbara Fagan, Becky Lee, Marylyn Cross and Donna Fuller came as missionary workers. In 1974, the movement was officially registered in Liberia as Campus Crusade for Christ and was coordinated by these AGAPE Staff (expatiate Missionaries from various countries who were trained vocational & professional personnel in various disciplines and were strategically posted in the Liberian government and private agencies, by the Ministry of Action Development and Progress). They applied their vocational and professional skills along with having a personal ministry where they worked.
In 1975 Bill Beauvais took over as leader of the Movement & later that year the Movement temporarily closed due to lack of seasoned staff since some expatriate staff were being transferred and others returned home. This was an indication that it was time to apply the Movement’s distinctiveness of having indigenous staff in Leadership. In 1976 the Movement was monitored on a one to three months basis by short term International Staff from Neighboring Countries (Ghana & Nigeria) headed by Mr. John Austin and serviced by missionary staff Susci Benham and Margaret Hastings as Agape Staff.
In 1979 the Movement was re-registered with the Government of Liberia by the name “GREAT COMMISSION MOVEMENT OF LIBERIA”, with the first Liberian staff, Rev. Samuel Kargbo, as National Director. During this time, the University Student Life Movement was strengthened and expanded to more University Campuses as well as beyond the University Campus to the Church Community and the Professional Community. From 1979 to 1984, Don & Vivian Isaac, Greg & Jean Davis, Johanez & Hannilore Fechter served as Agape Staff and were professors at the University of Liberia and as engineer at the Liberia Broadcasting Station (public Radio Station).
In 1987, Mr. Amos Harris became National Director for the Movement until the intensification of the civil crises in 1996 forced the repatriation of all Liberian Staff to Nigeria. The Movement continued to be active through volunteer University Students, who were actively showing the Jesus Film and monitored by frequent visits of the Liberian staff from Nigeria. In 1999, the Movement resumed full operations when Mr. Edwin & Madea Dunbar returned from exile in Nigeria as National Director, and passed on the leadership in 2015.
Today, the GCML has spread beyond the Campus. We currently have a Student Led Movement on Fifteen University (15) Campuses and four (4) Collages. We have the “Executive Impact” (Leader Led Movement) among executives and professionals that is impacting executives, Family life that is helping built families through home builder bible study and premarital counsel, post and professionals in the workplace. The “Global Church Movement” (Church related Movement), is helping the local church multiply church communities across Liberia. The Prayer Movement that have intercessor in three counties interceding for the Country, communities and families. Presently have over 300 intercessors interceding for the evangelization of Liberia.
Since 1985, through the Jesus Film showing and now there is an estimate of 2.2 million people that have seen it and 1,300 churches have been planted. Today, the Jesus Film has been translated in the 15 major Liberian languages and Pidgin English. This will eventually strengthen the church so as to see “Movements Everywhere, so that everyone will know someone who truly follows Jesus”.

STRATEGIES/MCCs:
SLM - is a Student Led Movement working with university and college students in reaching the campus today and reaching the world tomorrow. It is known that the critical one percent of today’s world leadership is on the university campuses. Therefore, GCML staff who serve at the universities and other educational institutions ensure a “Student led, and staff directed ministry.” Those who are won to Christ are built in discipleship, prayer, and student life fellowships. They are trained and then sent as student leaders to equip other students who become leaders.
The weekly small discipleship groups are the key strategy to reaching the universities and it is working. Currently, we have ministry presence on 19 campuses. Out of the 19, we have a ministry active on 12 campuses with over 1,000 students participating in ministry activities and 100 plus serving as leaders both on national and campus leadership.
Global Church Movement – provide necessary resources to churches and para-church organizations through partnership to help serve with more efficiency that will enhance leadership development, church planting and multiplication of churches, fellowships, and home cells.
Prayer Movement – prayer being the fulcrum of everything else, GCML seek to build a network of prayer which will mobilize 3000 intercessors and prayer workers to continuously pray for the evangelization and a great spiritual revival for Liberia, West Africa, and the world. The prayer team intercedes for the ministry’s daily operations.
Leaders Impact – focus on reaching today’s leaders who are the top 20 percent of influence in Liberia. Getting them from religious institutions and business circles through a professional strategy is a critical need in fulfilling the Great Commission.
Family Life Ministry – we strongly considered marriage and family to be the first institution established by God, and family being the nuclear of any well-structured society. GCML is working to strengthen marriages and families by helping people understand God’s purpose for marriage and a necessity of God-centered home. As families are won by Christ, they are built to share the good news of Jesus Christ to those around them through their life example and their words.
Mary Magdalene Women – challenging women to take on the initiative to share the gospel of Jesus Christ through playing active roles in their respective churches, organizing small group bible study, prayer, and family life.
Digital Strategy – focuses on reaching an unchanging gospel to a changing world (technological world) to help people fulfill the Great Commission using digital tools. Effectively using social media apps or platforms such as WhatsApp Broadcast, zoom, Facebook, emails, website etc. to share your faith.
Jesus Film – since 1985, God has used the Jesus Film to bring hundreds of thousands in Liberia to himself. Through church partnership and a team of trained staff, the film is used to present Jesus Christ to the unreached, coupled with systematic follow-up. In Liberia today, the Jesus film has been translated into all Liberian local languages.
Operations – serves as the engine or driving force for all other strategies. Meaning, operations pave the road for others to move on and supports the entire field MCCs for ministry’s effectiveness,
Compassionate (UNTO) - helping every strategy to easily reach their targeted area with the Gospel. Providing humanitarian aid as strategies share the Gospel.
